Obey God's Voice In This Chaotic World

From my limited yet steadily increasing knowledge of The Holy Bible, one thing that is evident is willful obedience to God is one of the main ingredients to a healthy spiritual life and personal relationship with Christ Jesus. When we take heed and obey what God says to do, it shows humility and in result, He grants us grace, peace, mercy and favor. There is nothing better than walking in harmony with The Lord while maintaining a clear conscience. However, when we veer from His perfect plan, we are then subjugated to the consequences of our disobedience. The author of Hebrews 10:26-27 gives us a stern warning regarding this as it says, “For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.” I do not know about you, but I have sinned repeatedly and desperately need all of God’s generous mercies. The Holy Spirit guides us in all truth and helps us draw nearer to Christ in character and deeds, but unfortunately, there are times where we succumb to the temptations of the flesh in our human nature. We have all sinned and fall short of the glory of The Lord (Romans 3:23) as this is something that every human being to ever exist in this world is guilty of except for one person, Jesus Christ. Jesus was one hundred percent man on earth (Jesus as human) and also one hundred percent God in the flesh with the unmatched anointing of The Holy Ghost (Christ as “The Anointed One"). He was tempted, he hungered, he thirsted, he had emotions and feelings just like the rest of us, but what made him different is that He never sinned. We must realize that if Jesus had sinned just once, He would have been disqualified to be the Unblemished Lamb worthy of the ultimate sacrifice for you and I. The death on the cross was a torturous form of death as it is was fully intended for excruciating, unfathomable pain prolonged for the individual to die a slow death. Jesus is the resurrection and the life (John 11:25) for all that believe in Him. Even if He didn’t do anything else for us, that is enough to praise and worship Him. However, I am beyond grateful that we serve a LIVING God that is loving and always with us. He is the same God yesterday, today and forever!

We live in a time where there are so many distractions in the world that can easily drown out the voice of God. That is why we need to intentionally unplug from everything around us and devote some time every day to spend in silence with just us and God. All of our technology devices connects us to anything and everything at the touch of our fingertips whether its binge watching your favorite Netflix TV shows, wrapped up in Instagram and Snapchat or playing Madden and Call of Duty online for extended time periods. Not to mention, keeping up with what is happening in the political arena of this country and the world is a full time job in itself. In today’s culture, when you take a stand for God and openly express your faith for Christ it is going to offend many people in the world who do not comprehend. The light shining forth separates the light from the darkness (Genesis 1:3-4) in the natural, hence the day and night, but Jesus is The Light of the world spiritually who has come to save those in darkness (Isaiah 9:2, John 8:12). We must remember that there was a point in time we ourselves were in darkness whether knowingly or not. Somehow and someway, we heard the Word of God and The Holy Spirit revealed the truth to us in due time. When we repented and believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we came out of darkness and we became the light of the world. We are called to be a living witness for Christ and make disciples out of all nations. Even those who are hostile and our enemies, we are to spread love and pray for them.

If you do not get anything else out of this blog post, I want you to at least get this one thing: obey God and keep His commandments. Deuteronomy 7:9 states “Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;” Moses is telling the people of Israel to keep God’s commandments after God revealed to him the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai. Jesus tells us that if we truly love Him then keep His commandments. While we do not live under The Old Covenant Law because Jesus fulfilled it (Matthew 5:17) we are commanded to love the Lord our God with all of our heart, mind and soul and then to also love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:30-31).

Do not let anyone or anything stop you from walking in love with God and your brothers and sisters. Even our enemies, show them love and pray for them. Love is not an emotion, it is an action, a decision, and furthermore, it is a lifestyle choice. As Spike Lee said, do the right thing! The way is hard and long to follow Jesus Christ, but it is the only way that leads to life more abundantly here on earth and everlasting life. Nothing in life worth having comes easy, if so everyone would do it! You have everything to gain with Jesus and everything to lose without Him. I shall close with this scripture from Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
